Isn't there a way to allow people to link their own images and have the site automatically scale them down to fit your format so they don't distort your layout? Then anyone could just click the shrunk pic to go to the fullsize view.

I also don't want it because of remotely hosted images are removed then there is an ugly missing image placeholder.

This is also why Avatars are not remote, but rather uploaded.
